I have always loved my mother's paintings and often urged her to keep up this beautiful craft. This is a way to keep her art going, some of my favourite pieces of hers. The paintings were originally made in gouache on paper.

The palm painting was created in 2006, and she turned it into a greeting card for her own business, Lotus Translation Services, with the cheeky and clever "This is your green card to a Happy New Year!"

I also associate Fayoum with her because our visits have been together. She helped me take photos of the bottles in the little streets among the bougainvillaea, and we smelled mimosa, jasmine and violets alongside each other. The perfect fit!

The second painting is very unique, cooler, and more jagged, with several layers and shapes juxtaposed. The palette she used is different; I noticed her leaning towards greens, oranges, and more earthy hues in other pieces, so this one left a mark on me.

It's a lovely coincidence that the colours are the same as Mystica's. It also somehow perfectly encapsulates the scent I was going for in an image. I hope you agree!
